SIMON COWELL’S HAITI SINGLE FAILS TO DELIVER
We were very excited when we first heard that Simon Cowell was putting together a group of the world’s biggest stars to record a charity single for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. A little less so when we saw the final roundup, which appears to be positively C list.
We were thinking Madonna, Britney, Justin, maybe Springsteen. Instead we get Robbie Williams, Kylie, Susan Boyle, Leona and Cheryl Cole. Admittedly international stars like Mariah Carey and Bon Jovi have appeared on the record, but given their recent poor selling albums it can’t have taken much to get them on board.
We were most shocked by the inclusion of Cheryl Cole. While the death of 100,000 Haitians may strike her as a great promotional opportunity from which to launch her US career, we feel that the project would have better served its objectives (i.e. raised the maximum amount of cash for the earthquake victims) had it involved truly global stars. Will the lucrative US audience really respond to a record featuring so many acts they’ve never heard of?
Showbiz legends Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand seems to have recognised this failure and, to ensure the people of Haiti don’t suffer as a result, have teamed with some WORLD famous stars including Kanye West, Miley Cyrus and Nicole Scherzinger to record a new version of We Are the World – 25 years since it was originally recorded to raise money for African aid.
Let’s hope it goes down a storm and raises the sort of cash the Cowell record is incapable of achieving.
SIMON COWELL’S EXERCISE SECRET REVEALED
Simon Cowell was spotted leaving the Britain’s Got Talent auditions in Cardiff, Wales today carrying what appeared to be a pair of push-up plates – famed for giving men the world over perfect pecs.
Our advice to Simon would be to START USING THEM! Judging by the fine set of moobs he showed off in Barbados this year he’s really not getting his money’s worth.
JONATHAN ROSS TIPPED TO REPLACE SIMON COWELL
Nigel Lythgoe, a former Executive Producer on American Idol and now judge on So You Think You Can Dance, suggested today that British talk show host Jonathan Ross could be favourite to replace Simon Cowell on Idol. Apparently the producers are keen to continue the ‘condescending Brit’ theme and are circling around the UK’s top media talent.
Ross, famous for not being able to pronounce the letter ‘R’, shocked the British TV world by announcing this week that he was leaving the BBC and his top rated Friday Night talk show. So the timing fits, but we’re still not sure he’d be the producers’ choice. He might have the English accent, but he’d struggle to replicate Cowell’s nastiness.
Second favourite to replace Simon is Piers Morgan, for whom nastiness wouldn’t be a problem. And given his history on America’s Got Talent he seems a much more likely candidate.

SIMON QUITS IDOL
As we predicted last month, Simon Cowell has officially announced that this season will be his last as a judge on American Idol. He’s decided to leave in order to concentrate on launching the US version of X Factor, which he stands to make millions from.
Considering that Simon IS American Idol, we don’t see it surviving without him.
Ellen De Generes will join the judging panel for Simon’s last season, and is expected to become head judge after his departure.

SIMON SET TO LEAVE AMERICAN IDOL
The internet is awash with rumours that Simon Cowell will be leaving American Idol after this season to launch and star in the US version of the X Factor, the hit show that replaced Idol in the UK.
There’s a big incentive for Simon to do so as, although he earns megabucks as an Idol judge, his earnings from the show are limited as he doesn’t own the format (that’s owned by his long-time rival Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment).
The X Factor on the other hand is owned by SYCO, his own UK based production company. If he can take that to the same level of success as Idol his earnings will increase massively as he’ll earn royalties as the format owner as well as appearance fees as a judge.
Bookies are already taking bets on potential replacements on the Idol judging panel, with America’s Got Talent’s Piers Morgan as the favourite with odds of 2/1. Other possibilities being touted are:

SIMON COWELL IN BARBADOS
Mr Paparazzi has a picture of Simon Cowell looking like he’s treated himself to a one-sided pec implant after fleeing to Barbados to hide out and lick his wounds after his crushing defeat to Rage Against the Machine in the chart battle for the UK Xmas number 1.
RATM managed to achieve the near impossible by outselling Simon’s X Factor Winner, Joe McElderry, to claim the no.1 spot, making it the first time in 5 years that Simon hasn’t had the coveted Xmas best seller.

HAS SIMON MANIPULATED THE PUBLIC ONCE TOO MANY?
Is it time for the public to turn on Simon Cowell and switch off his money making machine, the X Factor?
After spending every week slamming John and Edward and commenting on how they shouldn’t be part of his “singing” competition, on tonight’s show he effectively saved them at the expense of the very talented Lucie Jones.
But why would he want them saved? Is he putting ratings over talent? While John and Edward are completely talentless, they have attracted a huge amount of press attention which has only helped to boost this year’s X Factor to record ratings.
Or is he determined for Dannii Minogue to lose to make it easier to justify sacking her next year?
Who knows – but our guess is that money and his personal success are the key motivators here, and not the talent or welfare of the contestants.

WORKING FOR THIS MAN CAN DAMAGE YOUR HEALTH
We’ve always known that Simon Cowell is so much of a Diva he makes Mariah Carey look humble, and so it comes as no surprise to learn that he has a dressing room to die for at the X Factor studios in London. We hear the black and grey themed suite comes equipped with slate coloured leather tiles, large mirrors for preening himself, a widescreen TV, an $8,000 leather sofa and a marble bathroom fit for a king. In case that’s not enough he’s also provided with bottles of the finest champagne in crystal ice buckets, candles from Jo Malone and pictures of his hero Frank Sinattra. The room MUST be kept at a constant 21 degrees celsius.
What does surprise us about the room is that our sources tell us that it is also littered with ashtrays. Considering the X Factor studios would be considered a place of work in the UK it would be totally illegal to smoke anywhere on the premises, even in the dressing room of the shows biggest star. We do hope Simon isn’t breaking the law and endangering the lives of others. Should someone call the emergency services?
What goes around comes around
Looks like Simon Cowell has spent the Summer sharpening his claws in preparation to tear Cheryl Cole apart on this year’s X Factor (in much the same way as he did to Dannii last year). What is it with him? He spent Cheryl’s first season on the show building her up while taking Dannii down, but now seems to be intent on turning Cheryl into a nervous wreck. Does she deserve it? Probably. Last year she did nothing to defend Dannii from Simon’s bullying, and spent the series looking positively pleased with herself for being his new head girl – karma is a funny thing
