LIVVI FRANC – AUTOMATIK

YouTube Preview Image

We can’t get enough of this new track by new English-Barbadian Rihanna rip-off pop-star Livvi Franc.

Needless to say it was produced by Lady Gaga super-producer RedOne, and while it has his distinctive sound it’s enough of a departure from Gaga to sound fresh.

Best served at maximum volume – crank it up!

CHERYL COLE’S NEW VIDEO FOR THIRD SINGLE PARACHUTE

YouTube Preview Image

Cheryl Cole’s video for Parachute has dropped in the same week as she’s fighting the toughest battle of her career against (would you believe it!) a sausage roll, and we’ve got to hand it to her – it’s hot!

She looks stunning and shows off some well choreographed dance routines amongst a pack of steamy male dancers. The ’sausage roll’ Facebook campaign has seen her image take a battering this week and she had to bring something special out of the bag to counteract it. In this video she makes a convincing pop star and it can only help get her career back on track.

So the latest round goes to Cheryl – we wait with baited breath for the sausage roll’s next move!

Check out the video above.

KE$HA DOES ELLEN

YouTube Preview Image

Every day we’re loving Ke$ha a little bit more and this performance on Ellen sealed the deal. The vocals may have been ropey in places, but the song is fabulous and the routine was fun.

It was also refreshing to see a female pop star perform fully clothed, letting her music speak for itself (did you hear that, Lady Gaga?).

Very well deserving of her record-breaking US no.1!

THE CLIMB FALLS TO NO.2

Pop mogul, Simon Cowell, arrives at Fountain Studios ahead of Saturday night's live X Factor show

Simon Cowell will be hopping mad to learn that X Factor winner Joe McElderry’s version of The Climb, this year’s winner’s single, is sitting at no.2 in the UK midweeks behind Rage against the Machine’s Killing in the Name. Billboard is reporting that sales of Joe’s dreadful cover of the Miley classic are currently around 10% behind RATM’s.

RATM’s success is largely down to a Facebook group set up by 2 music fans in protest at Simon’s domination of the UK charts – winners of the show have achieved the Xmas no.1 single in each of the past 5 years. The protest group’s original call to war stated:

Fed up of Simon Cowell’s latest karaoke act being Christmas No 1? Me too… So who’s up for a mass-purchase of the track Killing In The Name as a protest to the X Factor monotony?

Although the group has now grown to over 700,000 members, only 80,000 copies of Killing in the Name have been downloaded so far. Unfortunately this means creepy little Joe will likely regain the lead when the physical version of his single is released on Wednesday. But we can always dream!

X FACTOR WINNER’S SINGLE REVEALED

YouTube Preview Image

Sources have revealed that after weeks of speculation Simon Cowell has selected The Climb as the winner’s single for this year’s X Factor. Great song choice, but we’re a bit disappointed as for us this song will always be about Miley. The X Factor version can only ever be a cheap imitation.

This will be the second time Simon has chosen a little known (in the UK) American song as the winner’s single – in 2006 Leona Lewis released A Moment Like This, previously a no. 1 hit in the US for Kelly Clarkson – although in that instance Leona’s version blew Kelly’s out of the water. Judge for yourself below in this clever YouTube mash up.

SUSAN BOYLE IS NO. 1 IN THE US

Susan Boyle

SuBo has won her US chart battle against Eminem and hit the no.1 spot in the album chart selling a massive 701,000 copies of I Dreamed a Dream in its first week of sales! She now holds the record for the the biggest first-week sales of any album this year, and also the record for the largest ever sales debut for a female artist. As Simon Cowell would say, we’ve got to hand it to you Susan – outstanding!

Eminem now has the 2nd biggest debut of the year having sold 608,000 copies of Relapse : Refill in its first week of release in May.

Meanwhile, in this week’s chart, Adam Lambert is in third place with 198,000 sales of For Your Entertainment. While Adam’s sales figures may look tiny compared to SuBo and Eminem, this is actually a massive achievement considering Kris Allen’s album sold just 80,000 copies in its opening week and missed out on the top 10. Adam came second to Kris in the last season of American Idol.

Rihanna is languishing in 4th place having sold 181,000 copies of Rated R – a very disappointing result for her given the run of success she’s had in the US charts in recent years. Time for her to drag her lazy ass out of that arm chair!

SUBO EARNS A FORTUNE

SuBo

Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed a Dream has smashed the UK album chart record for the highest opening week sales by a new artist, shifting a massive 410,000 copies in 7 days. The previous record was held by Leona Lewis’ Spirit, which sold 375,000 copies in its first week of release. So far SuBo’s album has also reached the top slot in Ireland and Australia, and the number 2 slot in Holland. It’s also certain to take the no.1 spot in the US when the Billboard chart is published later this week.

With Susan earning around $2 an album she’s quickly become a millionaire. She’s already sold 1 million albums between the US and UK, and at least 500,000 in the rest of the world, giving her an estimated wealth of at least $3 million by Friday. Not bad for an unemployed spinster from West Lothian.

Congratulations SuBo, spend it well. And by that we mean fast cars and luxury mansions, not giving it all away to the local church!

RIHANNA ON THE X FACTOR

YouTube Preview Image

Given that new single Russian Roulette hasn’t had great feedback we expected Rihanna to pull something special out of the bag for her X Factor performance. Instead she chose to spend 90% of the song lazing around on an arm chair, looking generally like she couldn’t be bothered.

Her choice of outfit was erm, interesting, being an ill-fitting dress that left her looking somewhere between an extra from Dynasty and a bored secretary. Nice VPL though!

ALICIA KEYS ON THE X FACTOR

YouTube Preview Image

Even Alicia Keys herself couldn’t be bothered listening to her boring new single Doesn’t Mean Anything all the way through, so thankfully for her X Factor performance she cut it short and built it into a medley along with the infinitely better tracks Empire State of Mind and No One.

We all know that Alicia is immensely proud of her home city, New York, and so we were please to see her paying homage to the city by dressing as a West Village tranny hooker (or did she just get dressed in the dark?).

CHERYL COLE’S NEW VIDEO

YouTube Preview Image

We’re quite liking the new song and video from Cheryl Cole, although we’re not sure about the odd hair styles or the blue skin look towards the end (borrowed from band-mate Nicola?). But overall a good effort and she’s starting to look believable as a pop-star, which isn’t bad after only 8 years practice.

The song is very good but not great, sort of like an album track from Madonna’s Confessions on a Dancefloor. Cheryl has a massive fan-base at the moment and we’re sure it will do well, but it’s no Fight for this Love.

Not sure that the split screen effect was part of the original video plot though – looks to us like Will.I.Am couldn’t be bothered showing up for the shoot at the same time as Cheryl!

VIDEO FOR BRITNEY’S ”3″ PREMIERES TODAY

YouTube Preview Image

We absolutely love Britney’s banging new track “3″ and think that after shooting straight to the top of the US Billboard Chart it will now surely be a massive worldwide hit. Particularly in the UK, where she really needs a hit considering the poor chart performance of her singles from the amazing Circus album.

Check out the sneek peak of the video above – can’t wait for the full thing!

UPDATE: You can now see the full video here – we LOVE it. Britney looks HOT HOT HOT.

NEW WESTLIFE SINGLE = EXISTING DAUGHTRY SINGLE

Westlife - Book Release And Signing

The UK’s most successful boyband since the Beatles (well, in the UK & Ireland anyway) are back with their new single, a cover of Daughtry’s What About Now. We must admit to being partial to a Westlife cover, erm except when the original is still riding high in the charts! Is there no etiquette in pop anymore? Gone are the days when a band or artist has the respect to wait a reasonable period of time (say 5 years) before ripping off covering another artist’s work. Are Westlife THAT out of ideas?

Follow the links below to check out both versions courtesy of iTunes, and let us know what you think.

SACK THE A&R

nadine

The world of pop music is a truly strange one, and it doesn’t get much more bizarre than this. While Girls Aloud’s least talented member Cheryl Cole heads for a massive no. 1 hit with the cool and credible Fight for this Love, its most talented member Nadine Coyle decided to record a super cheesy cover of Take That’s classic Back for Good with one of the naffest bands of the 90’s, Boyz II Men. How the tables have turned! Poor Nadine clearly thought she could skip the step of conquering her home territory before launching her solo assault on the US charts, and we agree that teaming up with a US group would be a pretty good way of achieving this… IF the group had had a hit in the US in the past 10 years!

We have to wonder how many credible US bands didn’t return her frantic calls before she finally got to the bottom of her list and found Boyz II Men as the only option…

Update: While the song doesn’t get any less cheesy or embarrasing on the second or third listen, we are (very) secretly starting to like it. We even found ourselves daydreaming about what a lovely Xmas hit it might make if they beefed up the production and added some jingle bells… Maybe a snowy video showing Nadine frolicking with the Boyz in a Santa hat…

Listen here and let us know what you think.

What do YOU think of Nadine's latest career choice?

NEW SINGLE – PAPILLON

YouTube Preview Image

The Editors are back with their new album In This Light and On This Evening and we absolutely love the lead single Papillon. The album entered the UK charts at no. 1 and has also reached the top 10 in several other European territories. The Editors have yet to crack the US, but with this song and album we think they stand their best chance yet.

Buy Papillon from iTunes.

RIHANNA’S COMEBACK SINGLE

YouTube Preview Image

Rihanna’s had a run of amazing singles over the past couple of years, including a bunch of amazing duets with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and TI. So you’d think one of them would pay her back by writing her a banging track as the first release from her forthcoming fourth studio album. Instead we get Russian Roulette, a track written and produced by Ne-Yo which is nothing short of… downright BORING. We’re thinking that even Beyonce would have rejected this (and she’s not fussy – there were more than 20 tracks on some versions of I Am… Sasha Fierce).  The best thing about the track is the gunshot at the end – hopefully from a gun pointed at her A&R team.

To think that Rihanna’s last album was launched on the back of the forever outstanding Umbrella. But now this… she needs to lift her game!!

Listen above. Do let us know your thoughts.
